Ashley Pickens

Ashley began CrossFit in 2012 as a way to get back into shape after having her son. She raced mountain bikes in college and continues to race for fun. She has always been active and competitive but found her niche in CrossFit. She joined her first affiliate in Golden before moving to CrossFit 720 Conifer in 2018.

Ashley spent the last 10 years at a desk working as a Mechanical Engineer and Project Manager, including mentoring new engineers and project managers. She recently discovered that her passions lie away from a desk, and instead she prefers to mentor athletes and help people achieve health and wellness through fitness and nutrition.

Ashley has a Masters in Biomechanics and enjoys understanding the functional ways the human body moves and how we move objects. She has a Nutrition Coaching certification from Precision Nutrition and enjoys helping athletes find healthier habits through nutrition. When Ashley isn’t coaching, she can be found fly fishing, camping or on epic road trips with her family. In the winter, she enjoys skiing, including the occasional back country adventure with her dog, Timber.

 Josie Van Veen

Josie started her athletic career as a dancer. Having already toured through Europe with a dance company and theatre show by the age of 16, she decided to obtain a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts with and emphasis in Dance from the University of Amsterdam.

During college, she taught both theatre and dance classes to high school kids all around the country, toured with her own dance company, and taught workshops.

After graduating, Josie got a job dancing for the Southern California based dance company, “Unity Dance Ensemble”. After a year with them, she took a break from the arts and focused upon managing restaurants. During that time, she also picked up another sport; Muay Thai. After training the sport in both USA and the Netherlands, she was introduced to CrossFit.

Three years later, Josie continues to participate in the sport of CrossFit, has coached for two years, and is constantly integrating her knowledge of the body and conditioning with her classes…and loving every minute of it.
